RENEGADES MOTORCYCLE CLUB HISTORY
The
RENEGADE'S MOTORCYCLE CLUB
started in the 1960's by Franco and Peter Denwoodie in Jo'burg of which
Toni Upman was a member. But like most clubs at the time it didn't last and in
1972 Toni moved to George in the Western Cape and continued to wear his patch.
Until one winters day in 1974 when three buddies, Toni Upman (Black angel),
Gavin Smith (Tubes) and Alan Lewis lay under a tree at the
fork to George,
Oudtshoorn and Uniondale, sucking Lowbrow Sherry from a wine bag for the cold
and the
RENEGADE'S
MC
George
was born. Toni and Alan voted to keep the name RENEGADE’S (The meaning of
Renegade in the Native American culture is a deserter, outlaw or outcast. Now
please keep in mind that we are in the 21st century. Bikers are an everyday
occurrence, but in the 60's and 70's a biker was somebody who didn't conform to
the rest of society, they were an outcast, deserter, or a non-conformer.
Gavin designed the patch and came up with the white circle and red rising sun. -
Bikers riding into the sunrise or sunset - It represents our way of life,
FREEDOM.
In 1984 Toni started
a RENEGADE’S
chapter’s in Middelburg, Transvaal with Kim Manjarico, Kow, Rene Voster, Dries
van Niekerk, Darry, Danny Connie, Eric & Wally Schwing and a many more.
This RENEGADE’S MC - GEORGE became RENEGADE’S MC - SOUTH AFRICA.
In 1986 Toni moved
back to George and with his buddy, Ricci Phaal (Reckless), revived the George
chapter.
They later started
a RENEGADE’S
chapter in Cape Town with Peter & Robbie Lopes. RENEGADE’S MC now has a NOMAD’S
chapters across South Africa and the Globe. We are always looking for more to
join us either as a Brotherhood club or a Member.
Toni Upman has been President of the RENEGADES MC SOUTH AFRICA and although he
has a number of members who work together with him, he is the CHARTER PRESIDENT
OF RENEGADES MC INTERNATIONAL (which first was formed as Renegades MC
World/Renegades MC International in 2010).
